Backpacking the Lost Coast Trail
Elephant seals, bobcats, bear tracks, oh my! The King Range Wilderness is all that…wild. And remote. Add sea otters, starfish, crab shells, rocks of all sizes and sand in every array of solidity and you have the Lost Coast. A spectacular trail along one of the few pristine coastlines along California’s Pacific Ocean.
Itinerary:
Day 0: After a brief happy hour at San Francisco’s Ferry Marketplace, BART to Lake Merritt to pick up our fully packed car; drive from Oakland north to Leggett for overnight at Redwoods Resort & Pub in Mendocino County, California.
Day 1: Drive from Leggett to Shelter Cove; Park both cars at Black Sands Beach with an hour to spare; before meeting our reserved shuttle & driver in the parking lot; Camp at Mattole Beach.
Day 2: Mattole Beach Campground to Kinsey Creek Ridge.
Day 3: Kinsey Creek Ridge to Black Sands Beach Trailhead; drinks at Delgado Pizza & Bakery before driving south to spend the night in Garberville.
Day 4: Leave Garberville for a quick detour to Glass Beach in Fort Bragg and then Anderson Valley Brewing Co Taproom in Boonville before returning home to SF Bay Area.
